T-Mobile customers can’t access new giveaway app after ‘high demand’ causes server slowdown

Many T-Mobile customers expecting their first freebies as part of the company’s new giveaway app were left disappointed Tuesday morning.

T-Mobile Tuesday, the wireless carrier’s new app revealed on Monday that offers weekly giveaways for food, movie tickets, game gear and other items, ran into what appeared to be server issues on Tuesday morning as customers tried accessing the app.

YouTube criticizes T-Mobile for downgrading video quality

T-Mobile USA's recently instituted practice of downgrading video quality to 480p in order to reduce data usage now has a prominent critic: YouTube.

“Reducing data charges can be good for users, but it doesn’t justify throttling all video services, especially without explicit user consent,” a YouTube spokesperson said, according to a Wall Street Journal article today.
