Survey: Container management tops concerns among DevOps personnel
The most challenging aspect of using containerized applications is managing them, according to half of the 711 DevOps staffers surveyed by container-management firm Cloud Foundry.
Among the 53 percent of the respondents saying they were either trying or using containers, 38 percent said monitoring them was a challenge, and 36 percent said the lack of persistent storage was a challenge, according to the freely downloadable survey, titled “Hope Versus Reality: Containers in 2016.”
Containers are compact bundles of code including an application and everything needed to run it, making the application portable among varied environments.
Asked about their biggest container-deployment worry, 45 percent of respondents said it’s that containers are too complex to integrate into their environment, while 35 percent cited the need for too many skilled staff to manage and 25 percent said they require too much time or effort.
