Adobe ditches ‘Flash’ name as it tries to catch up with a web built on open standards

Adobe is getting rid of Flash, at least in name. The company announced today it’s changing the name of its Flash Professional CC software to Animate CC, reflecting better tools for creating content with HTML5 instead of Flash. With the rise of mobile computing and smartphones, Flash has seen steep competition from open web standards like HTML5, which can be used for animations on any modern browser.
