Samba Tech, a Latin American online video distributor, is opening a Seattle office and launched a new app this week.

The company is setting up shop in Seattle to be closer to Microsoft, a major partner, and to tap the region’s talent pool. Samba’s U.S. General Manager and Vice President of Sales will build out a team in Seattle. Samba has four U.S. employees currently and plans to grow.

Kast, Samba’s new app, is a corporate video collaboration tool. A business email address is required to access the app, which Samba says will bolster security.

The app is not designed to replace existing work collaboration tools, like Slack and Hipchat, Samba says.

“In several ways, Kast will be able to complement Slack,” said Gustavo Caetano, Founder and CEO of Samba Tech. “The goal is to be able to keep video communications in Kast, but point colleagues to those videos via Slack.”

Samba raised $ 3 million in funding to support the U.S. expansion and launch of Kast. The new funds build on a $ 3 million series A round that Samba raised in 2009.
